Can an addict love?

I fell in love with my boyfriend and now he is a heroin addict. We met and started dating about two years before he got addicted. . I have never had a drug addiction before and I try hard to understand what he is going through. I know i love him regardless of his addiction, but truth be told I have to take care of me and I love myself enough to walk away if I absolutely have to.

For a little hope, I met my woman when I was an addict and a needle user. She stuck by myside and supported me. I ended up getting on suboxone which ive been on for years. Despite getting on suboxone to help me maintain, I wanted to change and I do love my girlfriend so I got help. For me, her tough love was enough.
