Can you get addicted to methadone?

Ive only done methadone a few times in my entire life but still wouldnt consider myself as a drug addict or substance abuser. the methadone is not prescribed to me, but I enjoyed it when I did it, is it possible to get addicted to it?

Even though you could be tempted to justify using a drug that is not intended for you.. doing drugs in this fashion is usually cause for developing addiction, seeing that addiction is a brain disease or disorder which ever you prefer.

To be completely honest with you- it doesnt make a difference how much or how little times you have done methadone or anything other drug, if using it is recreational or just because it makes you feel good... that is the first warning sign that your headed to addiction.

A person is just as likely to get addicted to Methadone as they are to heroin. Until recently, Methadone was the preferred drug for weaning a person off of heroin. There are still a handful of long-term Methadone treatment clinics, and Methadone is given to pregnant women who were abusing heroin. In most other cases, Suboxone or Subutex is used instead. The reason for this shift is that Methadone turned out to be highly addictive
