I’ve been shooting up with heroin for about 6 months and I’m scared. I know it’s bad for me, but I can’t stop. I tell myself that every time is the last time, and then I just use again when the withdrawals start. I hate it and I want to stop. How long will it take for me to get through the dope-sickness?

There’s a good chance that you’re physically addicted to the drug. This means that your body craves it and that your withdrawals will be pretty uncomfortable. You’ll probably start to feel sick or off balance just a few hours after you shoot up for the last time. If you can resist using again, expect things to get worse before they get better.

Personally, I’d recommend using methadone or Suboxone to quit. You should be able to get it if you go to a rehab or to local treatment facility and tell them you’re trying to get off of heroin. Every time I tried to quit without being on a medication I ended up relapsing. Getting help can also make the withdrawals a lot easier when the time comes to get completely sober. Otherwise, you probably will still feel dope sick for about two weeks.
