My family has an unfortunate history of addiction, and my mom just told me I might have an addictive personality. What are the characteristics of someone with an addictive personality?

Please know that even if you do have an addictive personality, it doesn’t mean you are going to end up on the streets, addicted to drugs. It just means you need to be more careful and cautious when it comes to trying substances, as you could slip into addiction more easily than others. Some characteristics of addictive personalities are apathy, compulsive and obsessive, disconnected, and risk-taking.

I have an addictive personality, too. This means that we are more likely to develop addictions to substances like drugs and alcohol. We are at higher risk, perhaps due to family history, mental health problems, and difficulty with self-control and self-regulating.
