What is an alcoholism?

I’m almost certain my co-worker suffers from alcoholism. However I don’t have a lot of experience with it. Can someone tell me what alcoholism is so I can tell if she is or not?

Alcoholism can be hard to spot, since most alcoholics are secretive about it. But there are signs you can look out for that may help like not wanting to take part in activities they used to, appearing tired, sick or irritable, or the inability to say no to alcohol. I think you should talk to your co-worker and see if you can help.
