When is alcohol detox necessary?

Do I have to go into detox for excessive drinking? I haven’t stopped drinking in about a year. Even when I wake up I get shaky. I don’t want anyone to know and will not go into detox if I don’t have too.

Yes. You need to be medically supervised to detox from alcohol to avoid complications. I’ve worked in a detox for years now and have seen some scary stuff. Talk with a doctor before you stop completely.
