Can ativan help with opiate withdrawal?

Being on painkillers for a few years now, I decided its time to stop. Considering the epidemic going on in society presently I'm afraid to continue taking them. From what I hear the withdrawals are going to be awful. The doctor gave me ativan last month will that help?

Glad to taking initative to get off opiates. And ya, it is known to ease symptoms that are close to what is gone through during withdrawal from painkillers and other opiates.
