My best friend is only 15 and nearly died from a overdose on heroin. He's super lucky to be breathing and alive but is his brain damaged from the heroin?

Your concerns for your friend are justified, because yes heroin overdose can cause brain damage. If you and your friend want to investigate and get real answers he will need to go to a doctor that specializes in the brain.

Opiates in general arent known to be toxic to the brain or known to cause any severe damage. Now since he overdosed, an overdose on any opiate including heroin, stops respiratory function and the brain can suffer if the individual who overdosed went without oxygen for long enough. Get him to a neuro doc if he is open to going.
