If I have an alcoholic employee is it usual for them to lie to you? If they do lie is it about everything or just about things here and there?

Yes alcoholics lie. My Mom would lie to my sister and I all the time when we were kids, about how she was looking through our stuff so she could find change to feed the homeless guy one the corner. She would lie to our dad about where she was. We even caught her coming out of the bar once when she said she was going to an AA meeting.

Alcoholics have a bad wrap and to be honest it has been well earned. I guess how much an alcoholic lies can be detemined by how deep into their alcoholism they are and there honestly no way to know with depth.

The best answer I have found to this question I found on Its a site where you can find all kinds of information like how to host an intervention, or help finding a rehab center for high functioning alcoholics. It also has a place where you can ask questions like this where people with experience and or knowledge on the subject can answer questions and give sound advice for anyone dealing with an alcoholic or drug addict.

Oh boy do they lie, I was dating an alcoholic for six months before I realized he was an alcoholic, and when we broke up over it, I started to realize all the lies he told me. On a daily bases. He lied about almost everything in our relationship. Im so happy I got rid of his lying butt.

According to Alcohol addiction causes distorted thinking. Many people with the disorder lie and blame other for their actions. If is a hurtful reality that many families experience. But knowing the behavioral consequences of alcohol addiction can help people understand the disease and help love ones seek treatment. Unfortunately I was living with an alcoholic and alcoholics do tend to lie about their addiction or even try to hide it from people around them.

This is actually a difficult question. The short answer is yes, alcoholics do lie, but so do people who are not alcoholics. Everyone lies but let's talk about why they lie. Alot of alcoholics drink for a reason, whether it's to cope with trauma or because they like to party, alcoholics depend on alcohol to make them function normally or feel more like themselves. This rationalization of alcohol abuse is generally called self-medicating. When an alcoholic hits a point in their substance abuse their brain goes into a phase called drug seeking or drug taking behavior. But in this case we are talking about alcohol. This mind set that an alcoholic gets into puts acquiring alcohol above all other priorities in their life. That mind set is usually why they lie or steal or manipulate. It is not an excuse, just a deeper understanding. Hope this helped you Rayne.
