During deployment I'm sensing there was a lot of chaos in my family. From where im standing it looks like drug abuse but the situation itself is confusing. How does drug abuse usually affect families?

Drug abuse and addiction is a disease of the entire family. It can take a once loving husband or wife and turn them into an abusive unrecognizable person. If someone’s behavior has changed drastically and the family is becoming unstable, then there’s definitely cause for concern. Other family members might try to - they feel that it’s their duty to take care of them.

Confusing is probably a good word for it. You’ll see a lot of internal changes in the family, with some people getting majorly withdrawn and others attempting to cover for the behavior of the addict. anxiety which is pretty common when a family member is deployed and the family dynamic changes. The best way is to sit down with everyone have a candid discussion. There are also over-the-counter drug tests that can give you an immediate answer.
