  5. How long does opioid withdrawal last?
Asked: 2018-10-01 08:30:32
My boyfriend got arrested last night, and he’s a pretty bad addict. He’ll take any kind of painkiller and he’s been using heroin on and off for a few months. It looks like he’s going to be stuck in jail for a little while, and when I went to visit him he said he was really sick. I think he’s going through withdrawals. How long before he feels better?

I understand wanting to take care of your boyfriend or someone that you care about, but make sure that you’re not enabling him or using too. That being said, his withdrawals will probably last about seven days. If you’re that worried, call up to the jail and let them know that he’s going through withdrawals so that they can keep an eye on him. I can’t promise that they’ll do anything, but at least they’ll be aware of it.

If he was arrested for drugs then they probably know what he’s going through. This means that he can get medical attention if he needs it, but they probably won’t have a lot of sympathy for him. He should be through the worst of the sickness by the fourth day. After this he’ll just be uncomfortable until he gets used to living without the drugs.
