My wife just found out that she is pregnant. We drink regularly and she has to stop for the health of the baby. I’m wondering what symptoms she might experience as she detoxes so that I can support her by properly preparing for them in any way that I can.

Your wife may feel nauseous, have a fever, and feel overall very crummy for the first few days. Provide her with plenty of water to flush the alcohol out of her system as quickly as possible. Provide blankets to keep her warm and have a bucket or a trashcan nearby in case she needs to vomit.

I hate waking up the next day after drinking too much. I always feel like ive got the flu. My throat is always dry like the desert. And I cant drink a lot at once because im nauseous and will probably puke. Im shaky and have a headache. It sucks, I always say I wont do it again, but then comes the weekend again.

The alcohol withdrawal timeline according to depends on the severity of the individuals alcohol use . As the withdrawal symptoms will be different per individuals alcohol use. You could have an upset stomach, vomiting, and diarrhea. Or you could suffer with symptoms like anxiety, disorientation, irritability or even depression. Either way I would suggest getting some help so you can better understand your personal experiences.

Your wife will feel body aches and pains as she detoxes from alcohol. Many people feel their body become very shaky without their control. Headaches, nausea, and insomnia are often associated with detoxing from alcohol, as well.

Some alcohol withdrawal symptoms can be dangerous and I strongly suggest getting treatment for any substance abuse including alcohol. explains the alcohol withdrawal symptoms to include but are not limited to: tremors, fever, nausea, vomiting diarrhea, psychosis, cold sweats, headache, joint pain, seizures, heart problems and even death. This is why I say it is important to seek help. Im not saying death can and will occur, but even with the possibility I wouldnt undergo detox without professional help.
