  5. Why do heroin addicts nod off?
Asked: 2018-02-01 15:24:20
My sister has been using heroin for years, and I always know when she’s getting bad because she falls asleep right in the middle of a conversation or doing something. My friend said that this is called nodding off, and it’s normal for people who use heroin. Why does she fall asleep like this?

After the initial rush wears off, heroin makes you feel really relaxed. If you’ve ever had to take a dose of intravenous morphine or a painkiller because you’ve been hurt, then you may understand. At first you feel really really good, and then you start to feel really sleepy. The higher the dose the heroin the more likely they are to nod off for longer periods of time. This can be dangerous, so make sure you’re not driving with her when she’s using.

Heroin has a way of making some people feel super comfortable. It’s like a warm bubble of euphoria, and they can get really sleepy and just kind of go semi-conscious. They can be doing anything and suddenly fall in and out of sleep. It’s like self-induced narcolepsy.
