My middle brothers been going to Alcoholics annonymous meetings... i dont get why he would think he needs it. How does alcoholics annonymous help someone?

Alcoholics Anonymous can be helpful for some people because its purpose is to provide a space where all members struggle with the same problems and act in support with keeping their sobriety.

AA may help some people due to the support group factor, but ultimately how helpful it can be is up to the individual. If your brother finds that it helps him with his sobriety, then that is what is really important.
