Can a drug addict love you?

It started dating a drug addict and alcoholic he goes on long binges and doesn't return for weeks on end and received a message last night indicating that he was back but he hasn't come home and I'm not sure if it's worth it anymore.

They really despise when people say get far away from him or her. He or she will never love you like they love the drugs or the alcohol. Loving somebody and being addicted are two completely different things. Drug addiction is a disease that the mind that takes over 150 percent in a person life. Now I'm not telling you that you should stay or that you should go but I just want you to know sometimes or really all of the time addiction is in control and for some people it's best to walk away from the time being but some people stay for years on end and the addict that they love ends up getting well.

Unless you believe that someone can change and you're willing to put up with the havoc addiction wreaks on your life as well as others do not put yourself in any position to start deeply loving a person that is addicted to any substance.
