  5. Can you be addicted to methadone?
Asked: 2018-06-17 19:11:21
I am trying to decide if I want to go with a Methadone Clinic or a Suboxone Clinic to help me recover from my heroin addiction. Some of my friends say that methadone is just legal heroin and that it is just trading one addiction for another. So my question here is if methadone is in fact an addictive substance?

Your friends are not wrong. Methadone is a very strong opiate and you will have to taper off of it under the supervision of a professional to avoid going through withdrawal symptoms. It is very similar to the dependency that your body develops for heroin.

Yes, yes, a million times yes! Methadone is highly addictive and YOU WILL trade in your heroin dependency for a methadone dependency. If done right the substitution of methadone in place of heroin has been proven to aid in the recovery process of heroin addicts on the road to sobriety but it comes at a cost as do all things that involve drugs/medications.
