I have recently had a close family member that died from an overdose. I can't believe that it's happened and I was just recently trying to find a treatment center to help them. How do you cope when someone close to you passes from an overdose?

oh my gosh, Kenny. I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you tried to help but addiction is a stubborn beast. Although logic tells you that you shouldn't feel guilty, a death often overrides that and you feel it anyway. Just remember, you're not alone. Sometimes those who are uneducated about addiction may make insensitive comments but there are others that understand and I would recommend you seek out a meeting for support.

Dear hurting soul, I sincerely hope you know that preventing your family members overdose wasn't possible and you're not at any fault for that. I'm sure you did everything you could to help him or her. Time heals all wounds. <3

First of all, you have my deepest condolences. I'm very sorry for your loss. I imagine you have a lot of contradictory feelings in addition to your grief. That's completely normal. Try to make peace with the relationship as it was. Addiction often clouds the water of an otherwise valuable relationship. It's not your fault or the fault of the one you lost. I like the idea someone mentioned above about going to a grief support meeting. It might help to talk about what you're feeling with someone. Take care of yourself, Kenny.
