My girlfriend and I are having a debate. I drink a lot with the guys every night during the weekend. I mean A LOT. But, I don’t NEED alcohol, and I don’t really drink through the week. She thinks I’m an alcoholic, but I think I drink like a normal person. Am I an addict, or just having a good time?

You’re walking a fine line my friend. It won’t take much to go from heavy occasional drinking to full blown addiction. Alcohol abuse doesn’t always lead to chronic use, but you should definitely quit while you’re ahead.

Binge drinking can definitely be a problem, and psychological dependence is just as hard to break as physical dependence sometimes. You can be a moderate drinker without being an addict, but binge drinking isn’t exactly in moderation. You may be developing a problem, and you should cut back and be careful.
