I am an alcoholic and have been accepted to a residential rehab. I will detox there before entering the program. I am very scared of what it will be like to detox. What will it be like?

There is good news and bad news. The good news is you have made a great decision. The bad news is, it won't be easy. You don't say if a medical professional will be involved in your detox, but I think it is a good idea. Alcohol withdrawal is extremely hard on the body and in some cases can be dangerous, even life-threatening. Surround yourself with professionals both during detox an rehab and you will have a great foundation for sobriety.

That depends. If you are a steady drinker, who has gotten your body dependent on alcohol, the early stages of detox are rough. If you are doing it without help, you are going to feel pretty horrible and could put yourself at risk. Having professional advice and help might make it easier. Congratulations on this first step! Symptoms of detoxing can include shaking, headache, fever, vomiting and confusion. With professional help it can be made easier to go through.
