I strongly advise that your wife have the clinic work with him during a weaning down period and then withdrawal. If she can wean down low enough it will be much easier when she finally stops. Some people report that methadone withdrawal lasts quite a bit longer than heroin withdrawal, others feel it is about the same. One thing is true in almost all stories and that is, it is during that withdrawal period you husband will be at risk to relapse on opiates. She should get into a rehab or start some other form of recovery treatment.

Withdrawal from methadone can be very similar to other opiate withdrawal but in many reports lasts longer. Headaches, tremors, vomiting, stomach pain, all over muscle aches and fever are common. I think your husband should make sure he has the supervision of a medical professional during this time. He can do it! Many already have but it takes determination and a good support system.
