From an early age, people have described me as having an addictive personality, and think it’s led me into trouble. Is this an actual thing? Are my children likely to suffer from this?

Nowadays, most psychology professionals stay away from that description. It’s more about common traits that can be found in some people with addiction. If you have a history of abusing drugs or alcohol, then it’s possible that your children could become addicted but it’s not 100%.

Some people have a higher risk of becoming addicted to substances with others, and can be described as having an addictive personality. These are more a group of traits in people that may or may not be found though, such as risk-takers, those who have less willpower than others and those who feel the world is quite difficult.
