You stop by seeking treatment. Don't be hard on yourself. With two parents who are alcoholics you have pretty high risk factors. You need to immediately get into some type of treatment though, do not wait. It will NOT get better, it will only get worse and you will repeat the cycle. You have an amazing opportunity to be the one in your family that breaks the cycle. By the way, treatment and recovery is a process. What works for one person may not work for another. I would try everything I could to get better and make a real effort to get sober. You're loved! I think this website has a 1800 number you can call as well, so you should do that. It's not going to hurt to talk to someone for a few minutes about your situation because they are specialists that can get you into the right treatment center.

Yes, Nathaniel's right. Go into treatment. Alcoholism never goes away permanently but its symptoms are manageable, just like diabetes or bipolar disorder. A happy, productive life is achievable. I'm saying these things because I thought I was destined to live the life of an active alcoholic when it was pointed out to me that both my parents and my dad's brother and both my cousins are. What I learned is that you need to go all in with your efforts in treatment. Don't cut any corners and don't waste your time in anything less than a 90 day program. Lastly, remain active in the sober community or go to meetings multiple times a month when you're in recovery. It's not easy but I'm living proof that it's worth it.
