  5. Are meth users dangerous?
Asked: 2018-05-20 14:10:10
My family and I had to relocate for my work. We moved into a home in a rural part of a town that is foreign to us. The first week we lived here I took sight of people who looked off and acted lets just say not normal. I brought it up in conversation with the neighbors a few doors down and they mention it possibly being meth. My family is more important than anything and I am afraid for their safety, I want to know if meth users are dangerous and if I have anything to worry about?

Of course anyone can be dangerous, meth users are not excluded from this.

I agree there are both good and bad people all around us. I dont think doing meth is a determining factor in someone being dangerous or safe.

Rashad, I believe the danger that worries you is the drug seeking behavior meth users experience in their active addiction. Val and Emerson are right, people in general can be dangerous without the aid of meth or any other drug. But the concern you feel is most likely the drug seeking behaviors. So when you are addicted to a substance your brain depends on the regular use of that drug. When an individual does not have their next fix, yes they could become desperate and in some sense dangerous. This danger directly relys on whether they think you have anything of value that could used used to get that next fix. If i could suggest: Talk to your family about the dangers of substance abuse to ensure they your loved ones do not try it themselves and get hooked. Added security to your home might be a good idea. If your daughter wants a dog, that might not be too bad of an idea at this point. Remember, drug seeking behavior has one focus: obtain something valuable to get drugs or alcohol. They do not want to hurt you or harm you no different than anyone else would, they just want to get high and that desperation could push them to extremes. Ask neighbors that you trust to look out for you and in return you can do the same.
