Can heroin cause hallucinations?

I was approached by a person at my work and asked if it is possible that he or she could be having long lasting hallucinations due to the heroin he or she had recently used. Haven't been able to find any accurate data on this subject, any help would be appreciated.

Since heroin is a sedative not stimulating hallucinations are not known in association with it. This question is perplexing to me.
