How long will withdrawals from opiates last?

Taking opiates helps to relieve some of the pain that I felt after I got into an accident. I noticed that I have been taking them more frequently than I should and am worried I will get addicted to them. I’ve decided to stop taking them, but I’m worried about how long it will take to detox from them. Will withdrawals from opiates last a long time once I quit using them?

Withdrawal symptoms from opiates often seem like they last a lot longer than they really do. They are quite intense and the week or so that it takes to detox can seem like months.
