I have been court ordered to attend NA meetings. I am very nervous about facing a group and discussing my addiction. What are the meetings like?

The good news is you don't have to share anything with the group. Simply going and hearing how others are getting through each day might be enough to convince you that meetings are a tool for recovery. Court-ordered doesn't mean you won't get anything out of it. In most meetings everyone reads from literature, and then there is a topic for the meeting. Those who want to address the topic and tell how they apply it to his or her recovery, speaks. Those who wish to pass can do so. You will be okay and might even come to depend on it.

Meetings are not all alike, but they do have similarities. You will sit with a group and each person will have the opportunity to speak. If you don't want to, just simply say pass when it is your turn. Most meetings have a topic of the day about dealing with life and recovery. Even if you don't say anything, you can learn a lot by hearing others speak. If you are not ordered to attend a particular location, try a few and find one that feels comfortable for you. You will also be able to seek a sponsor, who is a long-term recovering addict that agrees to mentor you in your own recovery.
