I had surgery on my back last year and ever since I have been taking oxyxodone for pain. Friends tell me I should stop taking them. I tried and I got flu like symptoms. What are the withdrawal signs for this drug?

Flu like symptoms are a definite sign of physical dependence, but not necessarily addiction. There is an added mental component in most cases of addiction. You should discuss weaning down and then detoxing with your doctor .

All over muscle pain, vomiting, restless legs, depression and headaches are common withdrawal symptoms. If you have been on them for a year, you probably will feel physical symptoms. It is something that will pass in about a week, however, if you also experience psychological concerns in giving them up, that can last longer and attending some meetings or a therapist might help.
