  5. What are symptoms of alcoholism?

I know that alcoholism is hereditary, but no one in my family has it and I feel like I drink more than most people do. Is it possible I could be an alcoholic even though no one in my family is? Are there factors that determine if someone is an alcoholic or not?

Anyone can suffer from alcoholism. While it is a hereditary disease, it doesn’t mean you have to have it in your family in order to be an alcoholic. Drinking to excess on a regular basis and craving alcohol as a coping mechanism are both signs that you may have a problem with alcohol.

If you are drinking a few drinks every day, crave a drink when at events where there is no alcohol available, and look forward to having a drink when out with friends and do not know when to stop drinking, you may be an alcoholic.
