How does drinking alcohol affect the body?

Being hopeful for so long and having faith that his infatuation with drinking alcohol would not cause his body to shut down, I dont know what I believe anymore. He drank viciously for about five years then quit but his body seems to be paying the price for his behavior. I want to know how exactly drinking alcohol affects the body.

Suddenly stopping alcohol intake could have effects such as anxiety, shakiness, sweating, seizures, seeing or hearing things, fast heart rate, a mild fever, and many other symptoms. If he wants to continue his sobriety than it may be best to find a doctor to talk about the different options available for him.
