  5. Can drugs cause pneumonia?

I've been in ICU since Thursday with pneumonia. I ended up here after being sick for two weeks and feeling like I couldnt breathe. Before feeling this way I think I developed a perocet addiction. I was snorting and smoking percocet pretty much all day every day then it got hard to breathe. Could the perocet drug have caused me to have pneumonia?

My boyfriend got hospitalized for pneumonia twice in the last year and he blames it on smoking heroin. He keeps saying is going to quit and never does.

Percocet is in the opiate class of drugs. Opiates can cause respiratory depression which can result in breathing problems if taken in excess. The percocet could have set the ball rolling for you to develop pneumonia.
