Wish I could rate it zero stars. I’d like to personally thank the nurses at the mental health facility for everlasting trauma since a misunderstanding sent me to an overnight treatment there in which I was told NOTHING and was terrified. My parents wanted to sue, and in all honesty if we had the funds, they deserved it. These nurses taunted me in my most vulnerable state. Despite this being two years ago, I think I will be investigating ways to file official complaints against the staff. Also fair warning, this is SIUE’s hospital they connect you to if you’re a student, I wish I had the resources to persuade them to change this. This hospital was my personal hell on Earth. The staff should be far passed ashamed

I recently left the behavioral health section of the hospital, and some of the staff was horrible to deal with. At times many of them treated us like criminals instead of people trying to get help with their problems. They ignored and did nothing to help any of the girls with medical needs (insulin, medications for other illnesses, etc.) and were very rude anytime they were asked a question. If they had to get up, they would sigh and roll their eyes about it. A CNA named Jessie was particularly nasty to everyone. The kitchen ignored a number of people’s allergies and diet needs, so some people weren’t able to eat their meals. Many of these problems seemed like they were caused by a lack of organization. I talked to 3 different people when I arrived and told them I NEEDED to be allowed to take my seizure medication, and it took them 2 days up the chain of command to approve it. I also feel like I gained more from conversing with other patients, because outside one or two group sessions for an hour everyday, we mostly slept, ate, & watched tv (which depressed people already do enough of) while chatting amongst each other. I’ll give them 2 extra stars because the therapists were very pleasant to deal with and interacted with patients in a positive way. Dr. Datta is very professional, knowledgeable, and personable. Some of the other staff helped make my experience positive by interacting with us and getting to know each of us in a more personal way. It’s sad that so many bad eggs take the credit from the staff that cared about patients.

Very rude people say they care about their patients but dont. Had talked to 2 nurses who talked to me and my bf like we were stupid and I called today to ask about their visiting hours and the nurse was rude. I've talked to 2 security guards and they were the only nice people that I've met and actually cared and reasured my bf will get better. If it wasn't for them stopping me from freaking out, I would've had a massive panic attack. This hospital only deserves half a star

A close elderly family member went to this ER, barely able to breathe, wheezing so loud it was a respiratory cry for help. She had had a high fever in the night. This family member did not want to go, fearing they would just send her home without care. I am in another State and could not help her, but would have never believed that would be the outcome. I insisted she go to this ER as she has a history of pneumonia and was too weak to drive farther. As she suspected, because of her medical care coverage, they sent her home declaring she had a bad flu. She couldn't even speak to me and went to lie down without care at home. Disgraceful! i called the ER to receive much of the same treatment. there has to be an outcry for this poor community!

My 1st grandchild was born here on 1/9/2019. I have read previous reviews about this hospital, and I personally have found them unfounded. The people who work here were friendly, helpful, and caring, from the guard at the front desk, to the custodians, the nurses, and the doctors everyone was nice. Dane Wallace is absolutely the worst type of person so be in charge of supervising any place that serves the public, let alone an emergency room. Just by speaking to him it could not be more clear that he does not have a single care for people and their needs. His staff is even worse. The receptionists and nurses need to work on their social skills and learn how to relay information and be polite. Go to urgent care any time before even thinking about coming to this facility. I WISH I could give zeros stars. I feel sorry for anybody who has no option but to come here. NOW not only did we have a bad experience yesterday BUT these people are trying to send a bill to my boyfriends insurance when they DIDNT EVEN TREAT HIM, & they did not have good customer service whatsoever. Dane Wallace is a liar and an awful “supervisor” considering he thinks there is no issue with his staff. They are trying to have my boyfriend come in for a “meeting” about what happened even though we already wasted our time trying to give him a chance to clear things up with us yesterday. This whole hospital needs to be shut down and start completely over with all new staff and management. JOKE. Not to mention, he informed us that there is nobody hire up than him, even though that was a lie according to what he had to say today. They will release your medical information without your consent to anyone! Highly considering taking legal action if something isn’t done about this.

I took a family member to ER at Gateway per her psychiatrist's recommendation. Gateway did nothing but urine test, interview with counselor, doctor then release her. They charged over $8,000 for this! Absolute robbery of the mentally ill. This visit should not have cost more than a couple hundred MAX. How do these people sleep at night?

I wish I could give less than one star. It has taken me years to get over the abuse and horrors of Kettler. Not only was I wrongly medicated but I was also subject to having my files mixed up and refusal to hear my diagnosis that ended up being false. I was given Geodon 75 milligrams at age 13-14 and the refused to take me off it after my complaints of heavy dizziness, confusion, and nausea. The sessions with the doctor were not private either, they were held in front of the restrooms where the room had no door and the groups were right outside able to listen in. They were horrible when giving me my things, I had to wear the same clothes for three days in a row with barely any shampoo or soap to clean myself, let alone the warm water to do so. This place is at best is a horror movie from my experiences and I am surprised their wards are still open.

They gave us absolutely no respect and were very rude to us the entire time we were there. I would NOT recommend going here unless you absolutely do not have another choice. We had an emergency with my mother passing out and getting overheated at Gateway International Raceway. Not being familiar with the area, medical staff at the track explained that Gateway Regional was the closest hospital. Not being familiar with the area, and since this was an emergency; we agreed to Gateway Regional Medical. We arrived by ambulance at Gateway Regional and everyone was very friendly, professional and attentive to our needs. They quickly got her iv fluids and got her comfortable in a room; while I worked with registration to fill out her insurance information. It was a busy summer night for the e/r, very hot out, but all of the staff did a great job!

This hospital is the worst experience I ever had. Ever since it got sold from st Elizabeth Hospital and turned into Gateway Regional Hospital the experience has gotten worse the staff are rude and doctors only care about is the money they get from you they don't care about patients. I even found roaches in rooms and bathrooms and when you tell staff about it they don't care. So in my opinion Gateway Regional Hospital needs to be shut down.

My husband is scheduled for same day surgery today. First no one tells us where to go, then they send us to the wrong floor, the nurse has a problem with the i.v, now we're still sitting waiting....only 45min late so far....this place is a joke....so they take him back an hr late...go to the waiting room....the restroom right outside the door has NO toilet paper!! Come on people seriously!

Gateway erroneously sent my fully paid account to a collections agency, after I had verified with their billing staff that my account was up-to-date despite continuing to receive a bill. After being notified that my account was in collections, it took me three full business days to reach an actual human in their billing department to get the situation sorted out. Apparently, they were having phone issues, so when someone would answer, I could hear them, but they couldn't hear me. All but one of them said, "Sorry, I can't hear you. We're having phone problems. Please call back later," and then hung up. One of them rattled off an alternate 800 number that was functional, but did it so quickly I missed it, and then they hung up (number is not listed anywhere on their website, as far as I can tell). I literally tried to reach them over two dozen times over the course of three days. At the end of the third day, I finally called their medical records department in an attempt to reach an actual person. I spoke to a woman who gave me the 800 number for billing, and I was finally able to get in touch with the billing department and determine that my account was in good standing and should never have been sent to collections. Unbelievable, all of it. Barring a life or death situation, I will never use any facility that is affiliated with Gateway.

Slllllooowwwww and forgetful. After waiting in the hospital for 6 hours after surgery and waiting for Dr. Painter to come and give the okay for us to go home... he never came. The nurse paged him twice within a 5 hour spread and not once did he ever come. The super nice nurse finally came after 8 hours to tell us he had went home and didn’t know he had to check on us. What doctor doesn’t answer his pager?! Thanks to him we wasted 8 hours to sitting in a hospital only to be told he wasn’t coming and we have to set up an appointment with him for sometime later that week. DO NOT COME TO GATEWAY MEDICAL CENTER, any hospital is better than this place.

By 6/6, I'm already receiving calls that my bill was past due... whatever happened to 30 days??? The payment was sent to pay out from my account on 6/12, but they are calling requesting payment prior to 30 days.

Do not come here if you have an emergency. They do not care unless you are a psych patient. Waited an hour, triaged, told they had no rooms to wait in the waiting room, waiting still (another hour). Absolutely ridiculous- if I wouldn’t get charged for the triage I would have left already.

I visited this hospital in 2016 when I was having severe anxiety and depression. When I arrived, I was brought back into a room in a timely fashion. There, I waited for about an hour before I was finally put onto the adult woman's floor. I do have to say that the nurses were very kind and compassionate to me. I believe this was mostly attributed to my age. I was 19 at the time of this hospital visit, and it was my first hospitalization. Several nurses told me multiple times that I reminded them of their child. Dr. Habib was a very nice psychiatrist and seemed genuinely interested in what he could do to help me. He started me off on some low-grade meds because he didn't want me to become a zombie, which I appreciated. He was also my psychiatrist that I followed up with when I got out of the hospital. The staff here was good, but the reason I'm giving this 3 stars is related to the conditions. I didn't sleep for the entire 3 days I was here. My roommate was very aggressive (Not necessarily with me) and was very aggressive to the nurses. Several people there had schizophrenia, and would scream in the middle of the night. You were not allowed to close the door so you were forced to listen to people talking in the middle of the night, and also had to deal with lights from the hallway shining directly into your face. You were not allowed to cover your face with blankets. During my visit, it was freezing. I was brought to this hospital in February when winter was at its most devastating. We were only allowed to have one blanket, and were not allowed to get another one (one of the reasons why my roommate got so aggressive). You were expected to get out of bed at around 10am, but they would check your vitals and ask you questions at 8am (If I remember correctly). You had very limited freedom. All you time was spent in either your room (which you were not allowed to be in for some portions of the day) or the group area. Food was about what you would expect for hospital food. I definitely survived on Cheez-Its while I stayed here. Rules were very strict. Those who smoked, were not allowed to do so. They also would not provide any caffeinated beverages. This made people who came in for addiction more aggressive. My first morning here, I watched another patient attack a nurse from behind a glass window. Again later, I watched another patient attack a nurse who was sitting about 5 feet away from me. If you ever wonder why psych nurses seem so burnt out, its because of these types of patients. During the day they often did group therapy (which seemed pointless to me because nothing really ever came of them), art therapy, and music therapy. They also provided classes related to domestic abuse (which I did not myself need, but many people who went to these realized they were in unhealthy relationships.) I will tell you, I don't regret going here because I did desperately need the help, but I was definitely happy when my 72 hours were up. Billing wise, they tried to charge me money out-of-pocket for the visit, despite my insurance TELLING me I needed to go the ER. When I called my insurance to see what the deal was, they said the hospital had not even filed a claim! I then played telephone tag with the billing people at this hospital. Eventually, it got all figured out, but it was very frustrating. I would not personally recommend this hospital, but to be honest, there are not a lot of good psych hospitals out there.

This place is terrible. I was pressured into doing an xray without a pregnancy test performed after asking multiple times and when I called to complain nothing was done about it and I got a letter in the mail stating that I consented when I had not. Terrible! Extremely unprofessional and that was the final straw to make me write a negative review. When I had my daughter a few years ago I got an epidural and it was placed over an inch away from my spine so far away from my spine that people came to my room to take photos it was no where near where it shouldve been and I have perminant damage to my back from it. And while in recovery the guy that did the epidural came into my room demanded the nurse leaves and when she left the room he started screaming at me saying if my back hurt so much to "shut the **** up" take a sleeping pill and knock myself out. I cannot believe this hospital is not shut down. Do not go here it is terrible!!!

This place is an insane asylum. I just happened to be in the area with an emergency. Very unprofessional, did not address problem thoroughly and will let you lie in pain until you die from it. Unless you're there gushing blood or with life threatening trauma, you don't get seen by a doctor. You get a nurse/practitioner. The one who saw me was a real misery-guts. I think it would have been too much to expect a smile much less any real compassion. Please, if you care about your loved ones and have any other choice or self-respect, go somewhere else. This is the most red-neck excuse for a hospital I've ever seen and unfortunately endured in my life. Save yourself! This is a hateful place and my heart really goes out to the folks who have to come here and have no option. This is a hell-hole.

Watch out for billing errors. How can a bill that has service dates of December continue to have errors (billing for an amount that they say I don't owe) for almost three months, even through March? It is hard not to be suspicious of this billing practice. Were they hoping that I didn't challenge it, and just pay this amount that I don't owe because my insurance already paid? I actually did pay because I am so busy. Now I am told it will take up to eight weeks to send back the overpayment (due to their billing errors). Can a business be this sloppy? Something seems amiss.

If you are looking for extremely rude, disrespectful nurses who do not do their jobs and do not care about you, improper treatments/diagnosis', unsanitary conditions and nasty food that you have to force down in order to not starve.. then Granite City Hospital is the place for you!!! A select few staff members are polite and helpful, yet the majority treat you like a dog and should not work in the medical field. This is the worst hospital I have ever came across or heard of and I will never go back or take any of my loved ones there. I don't agree with the bad reviews because I've been there for over 9 years and they treated everyone nicely. There has never been anything in the food and most of the nurses are really nice. Some are usually ignorant and or rude because its either the patient always wants something or they just hate their job. Lol. I really like their security team! They are really nice and kind and friendly! The ER team is really good and nice and everything else is good. I am a junior volunteer this year and I will do it again because it's really fun. You build character and be some more polite. It's pretty easy to get a job and i believe it's one of the top in the nation. When my mom was in the hospital, both times, everyone was pretty good and friendly.

The worst hospital I have ever dealt with. At first they told me my mom wasn't there, but after finally reaching my mom she confirmed the ward, and then the hospital magically had her file and could confirm that she was there. Then she was released entirely too early and still was having her original issues. And after that she had to file for FMLA and they told her that no one at the entire hospital could do it and we'd have to track down one of the doctors that comes in on rotation, only they didn't have any contact info for him, and he didn't have a private practice so we would just have to arrive randomly and hope he was there. Finally, instead of prescribing my mom anxiety pills like they said they would, they wrote her a prescription for nicotine patches. My mom has never smoked. I will never come back here again

I am very careful about what I post on facebook. I am not one to air my grievances online. But after going through proper channels and getting nowhere, I feel that this all I can do. My daughter Haven and I had a very traumatic experience at the Gateway Urgent Care in Columbia, IL last week. She had a low grade fever for 5 days, then after the fever resolved she developed what looked like thrush. We took her to our family chiropractor who recommended we test for strep just to be safe. What should have been a quick 10 minute test turned into a nightmare. My family has chosen a different path because of our choices to homeschool and have different vaccine schedules and to avoid pharmaceuticals whenever possible. I felt like those three things caused us to be discriminated against, and I cannot in good conscious recommend that any of my friends and family visit there! I took my daughter to the Columbia Gateway Urgent care on 2-26-18 for a simple strep test per the recommendation of our family doctor since all the Walgreens Clinics within a 10 mile radius of my house were booked for the evening. Upon arriving, though the front desk staff and initial nurse Laura were both very kind to me and my daughter, the nurse practitioner, Beth Kraus, who saw my daughter was a nightmare. She demanded to do blood work on my daughter, which I did not think was necessary (she wanted to test for Type 1 Diabetes, but my daughter was not presenting symptoms of that). Upon trying to deny that procedure and just get our results, she told me that if I walked out she would report us to Child Services. So we had the blood work done. Blood work was fine and the strep test was negative. Then she wanted to prescribe an antifungal for my daughter who had what looked like thrush in her mouth. I told her she could write the prescription but that I would check with our family doctor before giving it to my daughter. She wanted us to take a dose there. I refused. I walked out, appalled by her behavior. The front desk ladies gave me the number of Michelle Waller, the director of the urgent care. Beth overheard me complaining about her bedside manner and our visit. I called the director from my car immediately and left her a message. I called her and left three total voice mails and NEVER heard back from her. The next morning child services is at my door. We had been reported. For what? My daughter showed up for a normal strep test. The child services workers found nothing wrong with my house or my kids. They said they were a bit surprised to see my daughter so well--that they report said she had the "thrush" for two weeks and wasn't able to open her mouth. So Beth falsified a report? Because she was angry that I didn't do what she wanted me to? I have every right to say no to medication for my own child--especially when they didn't do a test to even see if if it was fungal in the first place. Then, upon finding out the last name of the nurse, her own daughter has Type 1 Diabetes. So is that clouding her judgment as a nurse? Upon calling the other urgent care location, I finally got a number to call at the hospital. The switchboard operator, Lisa, was the first person to apologize for the terrible service we had. The following business day, yesterday, I called Ky Scott, their quality control coordinator for Gateway Regional Medical Center. She at least listened to me. This morning I got a call back from their Chief Quality Operator, Dan Kernebek, and he said they investigated (what...between yesterday at 5pm and this morning at 9??) and that they did everything by the book. Outrageous. I am appalled.

HORRIBLE MENTAL HOSPITAL!!! They treat you like trash, the nurses boss you around and don’t let you have any freedom, they don’t even treat you like a person, no compassion at all!!!! One morning when I was getting my vitals taken, the nurse asked for my anxiety level and I said 9... she had a snooty look on her face and replied “really? This early??” In a tone of voice like she didn’t believe my anxiety could be that high that early. That’s what made me the most mad, she has no idea what I go through everyday and she can’t act that way, you can’t assume something just cause it’s early, she has obviously never experienced anxiety, she is the worst nurse ever. The other nurses weren’t much better either, one nurse constantly yelled at you when she needed you to do things, other nurses just sat on computers and chatted with other nurses about personal things. They do not accommodate you at all, I have a very specific OCD/ anxiety issue that needs some accommodations until I become more stable and learn therapy, and they didn’t care, pretty much said to deal with it. They make you sit around all day and watch movies, and when you aren’t doing that, they make you have a “nap time” everyday. They should be having us doing positive things, but they don’t. Also they don’t treat the individual and their problem, they treat everyone’s problems the same (and by that I mean they don’t do any individual therapy or anything to help you fix your issues). They treat you like you’re in prison there, they yell at you to come get your pills in a manner like you’re a criminal. These workers are terrible and are selfish in my opinion, idk how they even have degrees in this stuff. Please never go here, big waste of 4 days and money, if anything I got worse after being out.

this is what i refer to as a "poor mans hospital" I have been there several times and it is absolutely horrible. twice i had to go via ambulance and begged that they take me any where but gateway regional...my last stay the bed had a strong stench of urine and upon complaint they said they are not buying a new mattress just for me......it is absolutely horrible..!

I would give them less than a 1 if I could. They discharge a patient who is a danger to themselves and others less than 24 hours after a chemical and physical restraint. This place is a joke!

I wouldnt give this place one star they killed my cousin left her in the room for hours while she was having a asthma attack and she fell on the floor and the outcome left her brain dead. They are unprofessional leave you suffering in pain this place needs too be shut down.

Hands down the crappiest hospital I've been to i was in the system for 6 years with the wrong name my name is Jason but there I was Jim and my birthday is July 23 they had me as July 26th I waited an hour for a CD for a chest X Ray which had BEEN done but they were too busy having a conversation about the Oscar's to bring it to me NO ATTENTION TO DETAIL IF YOU LOVE BREATHING I WOULDN'T GO HERE really didn't want to give them the one star

Worst hospital in the world. I wouldn't take my worst enemy there. I went there with fever, sore throat and mucsle aches. They said my white blood cells were elevated and my heart rate was elevated. They ran test and said I had some kind of infection but didn't know what it was from. They gave me antibiotics (doxycycline) but it ended up being strep throat which those antibiotics don't help. So I called to see if they could prescribe me different ones and they refused to even let me speak with the "Dr. They said the doctors don't come to the phone". What kind of service is that??? I will NEVER go there again.

Actually i wouldnt have given the 1 star if i didn't have to to get to this page. Today i called 911 for ambulance help for my daughter who is 25 she presented with severe chest pain, left arm, shoulder and neck pain and weakness. Now as we all know these (to most) can be the symptoms of a heart attack. I called 911 at 10:10 am, took approx 5-6 minutes for ambulance to arrive, they evaluated her in my driveway and it was then decided she needed to be taken to hospital. The ambulance left our residence at 10:24am it is approx 10 blocks to gateway regional, while in the ambulance she was given a nitro glycerin tablet and was told of a irregular heart beat. Once she arrived at gateway she was met by 2 doctors and a nurse who proceeded to refuse to treat her because she told the ems personnel she had done meth 3 days ago. Subsequently she was told to leave and wasnt even allowed to use a telephone to call for a ride, knowing she was brought in an ambulance. At 11:06am she called me from some guys phone outside the hosp and was so upset with the treatment she refused to go anywhere else! I am absolutely 100% disappointed in your facility my daughter could have and still could die because of your inappropriate behavior. You as doctors took an oath did it mean nothing to you? Were you aware that you were sending someone's daughter out of your facility. What if someone did this same thing to one of your children? I love her and she did nothing wrong. The 3 of you did and im ashamed of you all, we will never be returning to any facilty you are related to or your profiling, unprofessional, negligent hospital.

1 other person in waiting room, get to a room and sit for over an hour waiting to be seen. When being registered I was asked what my pain scale was 1-10, I said 50. While sitting in the room I hear several nurses/cna' s chatting and laughing. Puts you in an even worse mood. Told they are busy but everyone is behind the desk. Not happy about being in pain forever and nothing being done to ease it.

These people are trash calling themselves professionals! My friend called for some information and this ER nurse was so rude, cutting him off saying we don't give nedical advice, before he even asked his question, that didn't have nothing to do with medical advice. Why the heck you call yourself a nurse if you can't answer a medical question!? She was still rude and told him if he needed advice to call 911! This fool was not hearing him out with the question he still had. Never will call or seek services there again!

First I want to start off by saying this place sucks big time. It's clear when u look at me that im in pain. Anytime u see a person in tears u would think they have a problem. Now when I tell a doctor that I'm in pain u can actually see my complaint, it's not like I'm making something up. They don't care here and they should be shut down. They don't have a really long wait cause there is no one ever here and now I Kno why. Wish I could give 0 stars.
