This is a great example of our mental health crisis in America. The therapists are good and the downstairs staff is friendly but the Drs/PAs are terrifyingly horrible. I was prescribe two meds that have a major drug interaction. Luckily, I reviewed my new meds with my family Dr because I wasn't feeling well and was able to get off of one of the meds before it killed me. The PA that did this should be sued and lose her job.

Was a client at one point. Won't allow me to continue my medication and tried to go back in but my anxiety wouldn't let me outside. No phone calls to reschedule, no concern I need to be seen. I have been to other areas of Pennsylvania and this is the most disheartening place to come to. 2 months for appointment, no understanding about my disability. Just probably the worst treatment place ever. I'm just ready to give up on getting better

I couldn't disagree more with the poor ratings Safe Harbor has gotten. I am sure that some people have had bad experiences but that happens in all parts of our lives in all sorts of situations and places. I went in to Safe Harbor's crisis center because I needed immediate help for my depression and anxiety because it was severely effecting my life. Sure when you go in for intake they ask a ton of questions but that is because they try to get a better idea of what specifically is going on so they can match you with the right therapist and plan to help you. I was put in a program that met with a therapist a couple times a week and a prescriber to help get my symptoms under control. Everyone there was very kind and never made me feel uncomfortable. They called to follow up with me and make sure things were going ok. I called into the crisis center a couple times just because I was having a rough day or a panic attack and they talked with me until I was good. I also had a super bad day and they sent someone out to my house to talk with me. And again followed up with me making sure things were ok. After the program I was in I got right in with a therapist for continued treatment and she was great! I am still going there and working with my prescriber and can not say enough about how great it is to feel good again to feel like a functioning adult. They know I didn't want anything addictive and have worked with me to get the right balance of medications for my issues. I have taken a friend there that was having an issue and they have also done much better since going. Thank you Safe Harbor and everyone that has helped me.

They didn't even let me see a psychiatrist. I saw a physician's assistant. I was on klonopin for almost 8 years and have been going through withdrawals and terrible panic attacks because this person will not prescribe it. It's BS. I hate that place.

Been going here for 5+ years, they have made many changes. But it still takes up to 8 weeks to get an appointment even with an established patient. I had to fight to get a different medication doctor. The doctor I was seeing had to give the ok for me to see a different doctor. The doctor refuses to treat one of my disorders properly.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. What a waste of money. A Bs place that can't schedule appts and keep them. They make you wait months when you are in need of help, never call you back and can't refill a damn prescription. This place is the joke among jokes for any type of mental health. save your time and money and find a private mental health professional or choose stairways. A homeless person would be a better choice than this garbage pit!!!!

Because my physicians referrals would not accept my insurance, I decided to try this place. It turns out they did accept my insurance, so I decided to try and become a patient. What they don’t tell you is that your first time visit- which cannot be done via appointment- is to see a therapist. Not a physician. I was evaluated by my physician to see a psychiatrist, and no one in the two hours tells you that you are waiting to see a therapist. Not a doctor. So after waiting two hours to see a doctor, and then not seeing one, I am told the next appointment isn’t for 3 months. I am very frustrated that I waited for a service that I was not told I was receiving and will be billed for something I did not want or need. It is poor practice to not explain to patients what they are waiting and paying to receive.

Can never get a hold of anyone on the phone when you call the office; whether this is to make an appointment, or have questions regarding your medication. Wait on hold for 15 mins. Being told your caller 1 and the wait is 3 mins u will actually wait 15 mins only to be sent to a voicemail to leave a message and dont expect a call back any time soon!! You'll be lucky if the call you back at all. Once, I finally said screw it and just drove there to make the appt... waiting room was empty and the office staff is sitting around laughing and talking. This is a behavioral facility!!! Someone should ALWAYS be answering the phones! Better yet, I worked for a UPMC practice for 5 yrs and we HAD to answer the phones by 3 rings, so I find it completely absurd that a behavioral office doesn't have to answer the phones at all! I have had to go with out my meds multiple times due to THE STAFF not answering the phones, the wait time trying to get a script, and I'm pretty sure I developed more issues due to having to deal with this place!! I started calling a week and half ahead of time before I would run out and then got accused of needing to manage my medication more appropriately!!! I wouldn't recommend this place to my worse enemy. Dont get me started on the fact my doctor left and how I haven't even seen whoever my new doc supposibly is. She already cancelled my apts three times!! If you're looking for a good mental health recovery/treatment center..this is NOT it. Keep Looking!!!

This place deserves a horrible rating due to the fact it takes FOREVER to actually reach somebody. If you’re on a medication, the doctor only writes up a refill up to when your appointment is, but if I have to reschedule they don’t bother to check that you need a refill. I’ve been off my medicine for almost a week and they still haven’t gotten back to me... goes to show that they “care” about their patients. Also, I don’t think only one person should be taking phone calls. Every time I try to call the nursing line, it goes to voicemail.. is this person never there doing their job or what??! Horrible service.

Since a lot of these reviews are subjective, I am going to objectively explain the safe harbor crisis center process and let everyone who reads this come to their own conclusions. When you arrive at the crisis center, you will be buzzed in and then wait in an empty waiting room until someone comes out. For me, this was about 45 minutes, but I called ahead. Again, there is no receptionist or person to greet you, you literally wait in a silent room alone. I was confused about if the place was even open or not. During my wait I did have some "entertainment." The rooms which they do the initial assessment in are directly next to the waiting room so I could hear another patient's conversation word for word. She was discussing deeply personal matters (as you would expect in a crisis center) and also a lot of financial information. I know A LOT about this person now. When it is your turn, you will go into the little room yourself. It is two plastic chairs, a desk, and a large camera facing the patient chairs. I was asked questions ranging from "What is your relationship with your parents?" to "When was your last period?" to "When were you last checked for STDs?" Dear readers, please keep in mind that this is only for therapy. You are not at a doctors office. I have no idea why these questions are necessary or appropriate for a non-medical facility. (Keep in mind that anyone in the waiting room can hear your answers as well). This interrogation took about two hours for me. I can honestly say I felt more hopeless and suicidal after that than I had before coming in to the facility. After the initial "assessment" you are signed up for either inpatient or outpatient therapy. I chose outpatient so I cannot speak as to the conditions in the inpatient wing. When I finally met with my therapist for the first time, I thought the questioning was out of the way and it was time for some actual help. Unfortunately I was deeply wrong. Your first therapy appointment will also take a few hours and it is the EXACT SAME QUESTIONS. Again, you are at a crisis center. For me, I desperately wanted to kill myself and had come very close to doing it. My therapist apparently did not think this should be addressed. Instead I was asked the series of questions again and then had to rate various symptoms on a scale of 1 to 7. The therapist shot questions at me and I said numbers. This was the extent of my first appointment. So at this point, I have been interrogated for a little over 4 hours and been treated like a human exactly zero times. Safe harbor is like a confused car mechanic. Its like if you take your car to a mechanic because it is on fire and instead of putting out the fire, the mechanic starts asking you about when the tires were last rotated. It is truly a bizarre scenario. While you are answering with your numbers, the therapist types it in the computer. She does not make eye contact, she is simply there to record this ridiculously unnecessary data. I realize that it is important to know things about a patient in order to help them, but some of the questions are just downright random. Also, a good therapist will collect this data over time by having *conversations* with their patients. You remember conversations, right? They happen without one of the people staring at a computer screen. The rest of my safe harbor experience was like that of the other reviewers. You cannot call and speak to a human, they only use a voicemail system. It is up to them to get back with you when they feel like it. This was up to three weeks for me at some points. I also had odd encounters with an aggressive nurse practitioner who prescribed pill after pill. One day I found out that my medical chart had a diagnosis that I had never been told about (nor was it something I had shown signs of or had been diagnosed with in the past - it was totally out of left field) but she then admitted that she wrote it by mistake. I can only assume she got me confused with another patient. While some staff are friendly and mean well, the whole thing is an absolute circus.

Frustrated

Do not go here. They are incompetent and you are only a number. To schedule appointment is a nightmare. No one returns your call. To get refills or to get in contact to have a medication corrected is a nightmare. The psychiatrist doesn’t allow you to speak because they are up against time limits. You can state the medication isn’t working and they don’t want to listen. Poor management with scheduling and refills and I feel this place needs to be handled by people who care. Stay as far away from this place unless you enjoy anxiety of making appointments with them or refills. This place is a prime example of why our mental heath system is a mess!
