My daughter received the best care here. This was her third inpatient stay since March. Her psychiatrist took time with her. The team in general provided great care. No one wants to be inpatient but if needed this a good place.

Don't send your kids there. They only look for surface level solutions. They don't return phone calls, rude staff, they lack the education to teach the skill sets to patients that would help them not return. It's an experience daycare for kids. Parents who just want a break from their troubled youth, should consider a better solution then sending them to UBH.

The Trauma Unit is, hands down, the best place for recovery. The group therapy is exceptional. My therapist is incredibly patient, empathetic, & encouraging. Staff were polite. Overall the food was good (7.5 out of 10) & we were safe. I'd recommend Dr Ross' program for trauma survivors.

my 15 year came here. she has learned alot and she had a positive experience. the only reason I didnt rate higher is because the wait time is ridiculous. if you have to bring a child here be ready to be here all day. I have literally been here since 850 am was told that my daughter would be discharged. it is now 1142 am and I am still here in the front waiting room, waiting for her to come out. the first time I was here to pick up my daughter they didnt even check me in. they told me they had forgot and I was waiting 45 mins before they asked me if I had been helped. I suggest they get more front office help and to have a better system in discharging patients.

My time spent in UBH was one of the worst experiences of my life. I was placed in the adolescent unit at age sixteen, and I have numerous complaints. First, when the psychiatrist first came to see me, he asked, "how are you feeling today" quickly followed by, "we will be prescribing something for your depression. You can go now." the doctor did not deign to inform me what I was prescribed, and I only learned about my medications when I asked the nurse what I was prescribed and it's due effects. The second complaint is the quality of care. I must state to begin with my issue is neither with the techs, which were great, or the nurses, who where mediocre. My issue is with the care. There is mandatory group therapy twice a day, where counselors, who seem to care but provide only surface level, stereotypical solutions/advice, would ask about your day. There was never an in depth one on one conversation about my problems. I did not know my, "doctors" name when I left, nor did he know mine without looking at my chart. The unit we were kept in must of the time was 30 feet long by 20 feet across. I was placed in unit 3 with 9-10 other boys, most of whom where misfits and criminals, without exaggeration. One was locked in unit three awaiting a court date for terroristic threats, (and I believe a public disturbance charge). In 4 days, I saw sunlight twice,for 30 minute intervals. There is a complete lack of all privacy, and the overall environment was the most condescending thing I have ever seen. I would again like to say that the techs at least where great, they seemed to genuinely care but they where the only ones to know me by name when I left. This place may help if you are facing catastrophic failure in your mental health, but I would only recommend it for very short term interdiction. It is not a viable place of treatment, it at best serves to physically prevent someone from committing suicide for a very short term. Do not send anyone you love to the adolescent inpatient units unless you have no other options, and then, find a better solution and get them out as soon as possible.

I stayed her for about 7-8 days and, the food was not the worst, the therapy did not help at all, some of the staff was nice but some were very rude and on the edge with the patients, when someone is coming from trauma the last thing they need is to be yelled at by someone who is supposed to be helping you, the beds were horrible it was like sleeping on very thin hard foam. Im giving it 2 stars because of some of the activities were fun.

We where going in for an evaluation, only evaluation!!! My husband was with me, we walked up to the desk after waiting at the door to be unlocked. At the desk I was asked for driver license and insurance card I asked why do you need them? She could not answer me. She then started the process of checking me in and said you will not be able to take your things back with you, such as purse and sweater! I said why? She was explaining it a safe environment!?!? I was getting concerned and turned to my husband and said I am uncomfortable here, he agreed too and we told the the lady at front desk we where not comfortable and walked away! Well trying to leave the doors where locked. THEY WOULD NOT LET US OUT!! Two lady came out and where asking why we wanted to leave, we simply said we where uncomfortable and again would not let us out! After my husband said to call the police because we where locked in against our will, I called! The nurse or therapist said you need to answer three questions before you leave, very frustrated and felt violated I said to my husband let me just answer her questions! I looked at therapist and said what are they? She asked if I felt like hurting myself? I SAID NO she said do you feel like harming anyone eles I SAID NO and third questions was am I seeing or hearing things I SAID NO!! They still where resistance to let me and my husband out! I think the only reason they opened the door was the police where on the way!! This was by far the worst place you could send someone! When someone comes in on there free will for an evaluation you should not hold them captive! I would have given them zero stars but you can't leave a review! Please do your research before taking yourself or loved ones there! It is very traumatic process!! UBH you really need to work on this! Your reviews show what a terrible place this is!!!

I went here last year since I attempted to commit suicide(I stayed here for a week). I left feelings even worse and my anxiety got worse too. The staff is friendly and all but they seem to not know what they are doing or how to do their job. The only thing I liked about this was that I met great friends whom were also going thru depression. The therapy secession was useless, basically everything. I felt trap in there!! We weren't even allowed to go outside for fresh air! Literally only once they let us but it was for 5 minutes, I thought I was gonna go crazy! Plz don't come here, look for a better place.!

This is a "24/7 -In take" hospital. To the point, you may want to go elsewhere if you know a similar facility. The staff with the paitients were good, but the"communication with paitient-relative" is very ill quality. I was told that someone will inform me regarding the status of my kid, however I got nothing (full evaluation results, treatment plan, discharge plan, etc) from the facility. The all information came initially were from my kid in there per phone conversations. It was yet very hard to validate those information with the officials there. Our calls to get information were not returned; our calls to the kid was transfered and left alone several times. Coming to a place like here is already stressful and uncomfortable, and serious lack of communication from this facility after admission is unnecessary.

Honestly, I am truly dumbfounded as to why there are so many negative reviews. I absolutely would recommend UBH as somewhere to go especially with anyone dealing with things like suicidal idealization, and or drug/alcohol abuse. I was a former patient from about 2 years ago, and I can confidently say without a shadow of a doubt, that I would not be where I am today without the help of the incredibly caring and understanding staff. Usually most therapists I've ever visited will make my feelings seem invalid due to where I was in my life, but they didn't. They weren't just "doing their job" they actually cared about me, and my well being. I definitely do recommend Mr. Josh. I'm not too sure if he even works there anymore to be completely honest, but the care that I had to undergo was phenomenal. They also did a fine job with our groups, they took time to get to actually know you, instead of viewing you as "just a patient", you were viewed as a person. So again, I definitely do recommend this facility. Because they truly do more than they're legally obligated to do.

The presence of this place gave me a feeling to run .Today I had an appointment for 2:00pm for an assessment. It was 3:45 and I still was there waiting just for an assessment. They took my phone and basically locked me in an area. It was like going to jail. I was not even a patient there yet.Finally after mutiple attempts to get someone to see me to rescheduled, it was like I had to be verified to leave. I was only there to get involved with DBT therapy. No way would I ever agree to stay as inpatient care, only because it just looked like a run down building. I did not care for the staff. When I advised my time was important, she went back to the staff and basically laughed it off with them. This facility may definitely not be for me. I don't think they realize this is not a free service and its a business. You expect professional experiences when there is money required for services. The common courtesy would be to acknowledge that I know you have an appt. We are currently short staff and will be with you as soon as possible. I had to find out what was going on via the family members in the waiting room..so disppointing.

During my initial screening, I was promised that I would receive exceptional care in the specialized trauma program. I decided after talking with the intake person several times (them assuring me that I would have a great stay/not to worry) and a recommendation from my therapist that this would be a transformative visit. I travelled from out of state. I was not disappointed with the actual trauma treatment program, but the hospital that it’s held in was so poorly run that I was unable to focus on my treatment. I feel I was re-traumatized by my visit and below are some reasons why. Many patients around me had the same issues. -Intake was traumatizing. Lack of organization and communication. -Late or missed meds. Poor communication between the psychiatrist and the med techs for the correct meds/dosages. -Overflow of patients in a hospital that was understaffed. -Late or missed blood pressure readings. -Lack of sensitivity/empathy to trauma survivors from the hospital staff. They had no training on how to deal with people who had undergone trauma and overall were generally dispassionate or disrespectful to patients. -There was a general lack of motivation and tact when dealing with emergencies. Patients were not listened to until they were in distress (low blood sugar, suicide attempt, seizures) I did not feel safe. -Lack of help to a visually impaired patient, other patients had to help her and we could not rely on the staff to get her what she needed. -Only two phones on the unit for outgoing calls. Many patients complained their friends and family had difficulty contacting them. -Unit was in disrepair: chipped paint, dirty bathrooms, dated/torn furniture and fixtures, lack of cleanliness in general. -Broken dryer, we were given damp clothes in a very cold hospital. -Requests for patient advocates and supervisors were delayed for hours/days. After reaching out to the hospital several times with my complaints, they have still not reached out to me. I will be taking further action with the state medical board, bbb, reviews, etc.

For fear of retaliation, I’m (obviously) not using any name close to my own. My child was in here a little more than a week. Zero communication from anyone, unless I called them. During our “parent” class we had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting Regina. She should absolutely, NOT, be giving therapy to adolescents. She’s rude, unprofessional and basically gave my son “accolades” for acting out. In front of my kid, she stated his behavior is acceptable considering what they went through. My child assaulted a family member, ransacked our house and became extremely violent and defiant. I knew things were bad, when she and I didn’t have any commonality during the meeting. When my child came in, there was obvious tension in the room. Regina claimed that my child’s behavior is much like a child that has been sexually assaulted by a parent, and that child wants to continue with that parent in their life. (Not appropriate, especially when my child is in the room). She justified the punching and breaking of items in their room. Come to find out, I spoke to my kid once they were released and she told my kid, your family is pissed off....tell me what one person, adult or adolescent is going to have an upbeat attitude in a meeting. They also claimed they have a disorder, they have NEVER been diagnosed with, but because Regina filled their head, they think it’s okay to claim this “disorder” I told my child you’ve never been officially diagnosed, so you can’t claim it. Regina asked their symptoms, my kid rattled off some things...(they are very smart and will research things). Regina looked at them and said, sounds like “PTSD” to me. She also said they look like a 5 year old child , who just got in trouble. My child is 14 and knows how to play the system and get people to feel sorry for them. My final straw with her was when she told me my church family had no business knowing what’s going on....I stated they pray and are here, without judgment. She attempted to knock my faith down, I told her I would walk out of the room, should she continue her antics about Christianity. At the end of the meeting, she told me I needed major help. I believe and how dare you, try to discredit what I believe! I would like to file a formal complaint and it appears that other families have had similar experiences with a Regina.

Good facility. Clean. Thoughtful and educated employees. You get what you put into it, so interact often on behalf of those you love, and things go smoothly. The journey is rough, so avoid dropping a bunch of emotion or frustration into it.

I'm surprised at all the negative reviews. My experience was positive. The only things I'd say could change are more activities during the day for inpatient & for patients to be allowed in their rooms throughout the day. Also nights and weekends for outpatient would be nice. Other than that, a positive experience for me. I can't speak for others.

Intake process is unreasonably long, saw 4 different doctors within 5 days that said they would not release due to "first day seeing me". The nurses and techs are amazing people but the physicians are awful and behind in the times. Facility needs a major ugrade, dingy lights, awful sleeping quarters. Do not admit during the weekend as your time will start the following Monday. I think they mean well but I would've been better off somewhere else. Had no opportunity to bring in my own psychiatrist I've seen for years and was called condescending for asking to do so by one of the doctors. This place has good therapy but no one on one sessions. Lacks structure on weekends. I suggest a different facility hands down.

POTS Patient

WARNING This place should be shut down then torn down before it abuses and tortures more people. They entrapped me physically and mentally abused me. They manipulated my words and permanant disability as suicidal thoughts and drug abuse. I am a permanantly disabled individual who was taken advantage of for the purpose of collecting an insurance payout. They manipulated my disability with the insurance company to keep me as a prisoner in their faculty for 10 days. All of the patients catch on quick to their devious scheme while loved ones are lied to for the purpose of retaining the patient so they can collect from the insurance company. Follow the money trail. Their video cameras would show the physical abuse and neglect of patients if they did not continually erase them. From a legal standpoint, my attorneys advised me that the facility is locked down so much that it is difficult to bring a lawsuit against them. Patient records are either destroyed or altered to provide a solid defense against lawsuits. Do not bother filling out grievance forms or attempting to contact administration because the forms and emails are deleted. The response to some of these reviews by UBH is a standard reponse they use. It absolutely baffles me that the Joint Commision on Accredidation of Hospitals has not caught on and shut this place down. Again I WARN you not to send your loved ones here. I understand that people do need help when they are struggling and need a place that is safe whete they can go for help. PLEASE do not allow your loved ones to be tortured here. Find another reputable facility.

The trauma unit was unprofessional and retraumatizing. I have trauma around locked doors and we were locked away from the bathrooms. My therapist assigned me homework to convey my trauma story in artwork and then left for a conference. I didn't have any individual session scheduled for an entire week. I felt I had no voice again. She and another therapist laughed when I dissociated. They discharged me without ensuring I had aftercare appointments scheduled.

i was transfered here after i tried to end my life 2 years ago. They told me they would help me cure my depressions and suicidal thoughts. Once I got there I was put in a room whit kids my age. Everything started off good, they would make us play some board games or watch Tv. My anxiety got worse and worse as the time goes on. We weren't allowed to be outside to get atleast fresh air! I felt trapped and felt like i was gonna go crazy. They did NOTHING to help me or the others! The therapy talks were useless. The staff who worked there, didnt even care for us nor did they care for their jobs. The drugs they gaved me made me feel sick and dizzy. If you want to get help, i do not recommend this place at all!

My heart is breaking reading all the reviews from parents. My son had the same horrible experience mentioned by so many other parents and patients. He was basically held prisoner and when he asked to sign the paperwork to release himself, he was told multiple times that would only allow them to keep him longer as it would have to go to a judge. Parents and patients have NO RIGHTS at UBH. My child is far worse now than he was before his time at UBH. Unfortunately his experience happened so quickly we did not have a chance to research this place before he was admitted. If we had, we would have ran far away!
